    Most Frequently Asked Questions

Ecuador is a vast country bordering Colombia and Peru. It has four regions with diverse species of flora and fauna. Most of its flora lives under the government’s protected areas like national parks and reserves. UNESCO declared some of its parks and reserves with spectacular biodiversity as natural World Heritage Sites. Together with these are other cultural World Heritage Sites like the cities of Quito and Cuenca that showcase the country’s exquisite pre-historic culture and traditions.

Where are there the Galapagos Islands ?

The Galapagos Islands (their official name in Spanish is Archipiélago de Colón, in honor of Christopher Columbus), are part of Ecuador, located at 1000 kilometers or 600 nautical miles west of the Ecuadorian coast in the Pacific Ocean. The islands straddle directly the Equator line.

How do we get there ?

Ecuador can be reached from North America via daily flights from Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and New York to Quito and Guayaquil International Airports. Likewise you can travel from Europe through Amsterdam or Madrid as well as from Lima, Bogota, Panama and Santiago in Latin America. Once you are in Ecuador there are several daily flights to the Galapagos Islands (Baltra and San Cristobal Airports), from Quito or Guayaquil.

How long is the flight to the Galápagos Islands ?

There are daily flights departing from Quito and Guayaquil to the Galapagos. The flight takes 2h30 minutes from Quito including an intermediate stop in Guayaquil of about 45 minutes and 1h30 if directly from Guayaquil. There are two airports in the Galápagos Islands: one is located in Baltra Island and the other in San Cristobal Island. If you are booking directly your flights to and from the Islands, please make sure that you book the appropriate flights to and from the airport in which your program will start and end.

Are there medical services available in the Galapagos Islands ?

Some of the vessels have a medical doctor on board and yachts have only first aid. However all vessels have radio and mobile communication facilities and emergency protocols and procedures. There are small and basic hospitals on two of the inhabited islands. In case of a serious illness you would have to return to the mainland. Medical insurance that includes air-ambulance services is strongly recommended.

Sightseeing of wildlife can be guaranteed in the Galápagos Islands ?

As in any natural area, specific sightseeing cannot be guaranteed since wildlife moves freely and as well as sometimes being very close to the trails, in other cases they may be distant or absent from the place.
