Ecuador eliminates PCR tests

Effective July 01 2021 the Government of Ecuador established that arriving passengers as well as those passengers travelling to the Galápagos Islands require to present either:


  • VACCINATION CARD stating that the traveler has received the corresponding COVID-19 vaccine, or


  • Travelers who still have not received the COVID-19 vaccine should present a negative corona test (COVID-19 RT-PCR test) taken up to 3 days (72 hours) before entering the country or before travelling to the Galápagos Islands.


Passengers arriving from Brazil should comply with additional protocols, please inquire.


Upon arrival at the international airports of Quito or Guayaquil all passengers go through temperature detectors. If the temperature is higher than normal or if the traveler presents any of the symptoms related to COVID-19, he/she will be evaluated by the personnel of the Health Department and required to take the corresponding COVID-19 test. If the test is positive, the passenger should go to quarantine for ten (10) days at his/her home or hotel. Nevertheless, if the test is negative, the passenger can continue with his/her planned visits.


General important information:

  • Upon arrival in Ecuador, travelers go through several controls such as: temperature detectors and disinfection footbaths.
  • It is required during the stay in Ecuador to wear a mask at all times, wash their hands continuously with disinfectants and observe social distance
  • The costs of all PCR tests performed in Ecuador and the Mandatory Preventive Isolation period (APO) in hotels, hospitalization and or medicines if required are to be paid by the passenger.
  • Both to enter Ecuador and to the Galapagos Islands, the clients are required to bring their travel insurance with medical coverage for COVID-19

The Ecuadorian Government gave priority on the vaccination plan to the Galápagos Islands, which started in March 2021, it is programmed that 100% of the population of the islands as well as the crew of the vessels operating on the islands will be 100% vaccinated by the end of June 2021.



The vaccination plan is in place in all the country. The Ecuadorian government is completing the vaccination of all the people of 65+ in the coming weeks. The vaccination for the rest of the population is scheduled for the coming months. The new government’s objective is to vaccinate 9 million people in the next 100 days. By the end of September, more than 50% of the Ecuadorian population will be vaccinated. Along with vaccination program, a plan is in place that will allow all students to start classes at their schools and universities in September.
